Ana y Bruno Layout

I was very privileged to work as layout artist on this project since the beginning of the production at Lo Coloco Films, working first on the pilot development and following into full production of the feature film.

Worked closely to film director Carlos Carrera developing the cinematographic language, camera and character placement, camera animation and general  CG previsualization of the film.

I established and animated cameras for several shots and did some environment and character animation as well.

Trained many talented people that entered as trainee, teaching them as much as I learned from them.

Baktun. Projection Mapping at Akarenga, Yokohama, Japan.

One of my favourite projects I’ve worked on.

I did 60% of all CG work and did creative and technical direction for this CG animated short film deployed on on video mapping technique.

Commissioned for the second time by the Japanese festival “Joy of Mexico” held in 2012, Telekinetic created an audiovisual piece based on the mystical symbolism of the Mayan world. The narrative evokes the ancient civilization, their effigies, their architecture and the completion of their calendar represented by the so-called “End of the World”. It is through digital illusionism that the message is transmitted, an awakening of the human being with greater integration and awareness.

This work was developed in 3D animation and was musicalized based on the legacy of modernist composer Silvestre Revueltas, with his piece the night of the Mayans.

“Baktun” under the technique of “Projection Mapping”, transformed completely Akarenga’s architecture, historic building in the port of Yokohama, Japan.

“Muto” Video Mapping. ITESM 70th Anniversary.

While working on Telekinetic Media Lab, I did the creative, technical direction and developed 70% of all CG work for the 70th anniversary of the “Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey” at Estado de Mexico Branch.

Inspired by the message “Transforminmg lifes for 70 years”, I developed the audiovisual piece “Muto”, using video mapping technique and a mixture of generative and pre rendered CG animation synchronized to original music. Due to time and budget constraints I tried to use a balance of abstract an figurative forms to give an understandable narrative avoiding using the mapping technique just for gimmycks.

The show was executed using the first version of “Alkimia” , a proprietary custom software for controlling audiovisual content for multi display, firstly developed on VVVV using it as prototype to further development on Touch Designer, evolving to the software I call now “Soul Engine Explorer”.

We used 3 18k Barco video projectors on 18m tall towers to map the central building of the university.

Babylon Cluster Pixel Art Illustration Series

“Babylon Cluster” is a transmedia piece composed by a video game, a music album, a live audiovisual performance and a series of printed illustrations of pixel art.

This illustrations were produced on 2012 using pixel art technique, using the art for a video game developed using Unity and being printed in 1.5 m x 1.5 m limited edition prints.

The complete piece explores the idea of a virtual babylonic cluster of information as a metaphor of a modern babel tower, implying that internet is one of the most big constructions of the human, but it may fall upon us if we are not careful, and currently I think society is living a process of a babel tower falling down, transforming a a tool of communication into a tool of disinformation, making the contemporary human more disconnected and confused as ever before.

The narrative of the piece establishes a cyborg “Rasta” pirate on a tropical cyberspace who is trying to “mash down” babylon, fighting ghosts and vampires as a symbol of the destruction of our own demons to be able to set us free from the computing modern slavery . Influences of cyberpunk, dub culture and 8bit are merged into a playful transmediatic experience.

The piece have been exhibited in different galleries, festivals and exhibits like FMEL at Chicago, Mutek.mx on its 2012 edition, La Quiñonera, Live Performance Meeting Mexico and the collective exhibit “Meta Narrativas” at Universidad Iberoamericana of Mexico City.

Visions of Lizard – Dim glow in wreck (Official Video)

Manipulated, rendered and captured on real time using “Soul Engine Explorer”, a Touch Designer framework I created for generative audiovisual media.

This is an audiovisual collaboration with “Visions Of Lizard”, a music project of a Mexican colleague who is currently working in the Netherlands.

The video clip is the result of the experiment of using “Soul Engine Explorer” as a tool for creating a music video.

Following are stills captured from the software:

Here is a screen capture of the GUI’s software while doing this project:

HEX. Audio Reactive Installation for HYPERDUBD10MX

On 2014 I designed, programmed and operated the audio reactive piece “Hex” while directing Telekinetic Media Lab.

Comissioned by the renowned UK music brand Black Market Records, I was asked to design the stage for the 10th year anniversary celebration of the seminal label “Hyperdub” at Mexico City.

HEX worked as a synaesthesic stage, delivering unseen visuals to a yet amazing sound experience.  Stage trusses, wood, robotic lights and 3 short throw 3K ANSI projectors were used to video map  7 different hexagonal surfaces with generative visuals reacting live to the sound from the mixing console.

The visuals were developed using Alkimia, a Touch Designer framework developed for audio reactive generative visuals for multi display. I’ve used this tool many times for different shows and applications.

1st of November of 2014. Day of the Dead at Mexico City. Salon Covadonga was the host of a great celebration, the 10th year anniversary of the seminal label Hyperdub.

The boss label Kode 9, alongside Scratcha DVA, Ikonika and Hyperdub’s latest partners Teklife’s DJ Spinn, DJ Taso and DJ Earl showcased one of the most impressive bass music events that Mexico City has lived.

Black Market, in partnership with Indio, Ensamble and Telekinetic Media lab were responsible for making this possible.

Following is a video that shows how Alkimia generates the visuals reacting to different sound frequencies.

Kupa A/V Live at Mutek.MX 2012

On 2012 I presented for the first time in Mexico (after debuting the show at the FMEL festival at Chicago) the live audiovisual show “Babylon Cluster”.

Babylon Cluster Live is a part of a transmediatic piece composed by an actual video game, an album (which never got released), a serie of limited printed illustrations and the live audiovisual show.

Music was performed using Ableton Live in one computer and visuals were performed using Resolume on another computer, both computers conected via MIDI, syncing the visuals to the music.

The show and different iterations of it, were presented in following festivals like Live Perfomers Meeting Mexico at the CENART (National Center for the Arts), Ceremonia Festival 2014, Antes Festival, Format Festival and various clubs and showcases at Mexico City, Morelia, Toluca and Guadalajara.

Kupa – Guacamayas EP

Guacamayas EP was released on 2015 at Ten Toes Turbo, a mexican digital label focused on bass music and Footwork / Juke rhythms.

This EP was the result of years of experimenting 160 BPM rhythms like Footwork and Jungle with 8bit / chiptune music.

Mexican producers Ruido and MHV did awesome remixes for the “Guacamayas” track.

I worked on the cover art of the release as well using Pixel Art Technique.

The release was well received by the world chiptune community.

It is available at all the major digital music sotores and streaming services like Spotify, Amazon, iTunes, Juno Download and at the Ten Toes Turbo’s bandcamp.

Luma A/V Live at Unit Club Tokyo

Requested by Luma and Esphiral Media, I developed and performed the visuals for an audiovisual show which was presented at the basement of Unit Club Tokyo on 2014.

We used a custom back projected translucent screen to create a volumetric effect between the audience and the performers.

Visuals were generated on real time, reacting to the music using “Alkimia”, a Touch Designer framework built for real time generative and audio reactive visuals.

Pixel Cover: Tin Drum – Japan

On 2015 I was trying to create a section for the Noiselab’s blog called “Pixel Cover Art” .

The idea was to create stylized and “funny” GIF animations with pixel art technique of famous cover art albums.

The only published GIF I did is this cover of Japan’s iconic “Tin Drum” Album.
