On 2014 I designed, programmed and operated the audio reactive piece “Hex” while directing Telekinetic Media Lab.

Comissioned by the renowned UK music brand Black Market Records, I was asked to design the stage for the 10th year anniversary celebration of the seminal label “Hyperdub” at Mexico City.

HEX worked as a synaesthesic stage, delivering unseen visuals to a yet amazing sound experience.  Stage trusses, wood, robotic lights and 3 short throw 3K ANSI projectors were used to video map  7 different hexagonal surfaces with generative visuals reacting live to the sound from the mixing console.

The visuals were developed using Alkimia, a Touch Designer framework developed for audio reactive generative visuals for multi display. I’ve used this tool many times for different shows and applications.

1st of November of 2014. Day of the Dead at Mexico City. Salon Covadonga was the host of a great celebration, the 10th year anniversary of the seminal label Hyperdub.

The boss label Kode 9, alongside Scratcha DVA, Ikonika and Hyperdub’s latest partners Teklife’s DJ Spinn, DJ Taso and DJ Earl showcased one of the most impressive bass music events that Mexico City has lived.

Black Market, in partnership with Indio, Ensamble and Telekinetic Media lab were responsible for making this possible.

Following is a video that shows how Alkimia generates the visuals reacting to different sound frequencies.
